2 weeks.. it has only been 2 weeks and it feels like i've been here my whole life. I don't find myself thinking of home, dreaming of home, waking up to emptiness anymore. Last week was kinda bad i admit.. first few days of school i was so depressed i really reallly wanted to transfer out of law to join my friends in engineering. But now.. sydney's good and boy am i in love with law (:
I thought i couldn't fit in the whole law culture at first, people here are so vocal its scary.. (well not surprising since class participation is worth 20% of the overall grade. farkshit).. but i'm adapting; not that i'm learning to be expressive but i'm getting used to the idea. Law's reallly fascinating. its very different from any other subjects in the sense that there's really no right or wrong. There would be no fixed route to an answer and your argument structure is really what mattered most.. Just on my very first day i've got a mini essay question going something like this "When you do something wrong it is usually thought to be important to apologise, however, it is not part of the legal procedures. To what extent do you think an apology is a fundamental part of the legal system?" freaking cool shiat! and in the next 2 week's my major assignment would be to sit through any 2 hearings from both the high court and the lower one. court in action! and its really amazing the way judges come to a decision. In the past when people are still conquering lands and stuffs, they defined "inhabitated land" to be something void of cultivation. And in their legal terms, cultivation means farming and farming means having fences around a piece of land. The aborigines "farmed" by burning a piece of land, letting weeds and bushes grow which then eventually attracted kangeroos for hunting. There were no fences so the English took australia as an inhabitated land and gained territory over the aborigines! Fascinating huh!
Ok enough of law-so-cool rants, like i've said, i was really homesick last week.. everynight i would dream of being back home. Before i wake up every morning, i would somehow feel as tho my room layout is the same as back in sg.. its really warm and comfortable.. then i would open my eyes realising it wasn't the case. It was really quite depressing.. school was particularly lonely for me cause i'm going for lectures all alone and would later hear my engin friends going on about how fun their lectures were as a group. But like i've said its better now cause i'm rather used to it and i realised this is uni life, also i'm making friends so i'm gathering lecture kakis. all's goood (:
One thing about UNSW. its seriously a partying uni. Sign up for the unsw student life organisation and you get loads of free beer vouchers. Really.. how depressing can uni life get with that! =D
