Nothing has been going right, NOTHING.
just hours ago, my life crumbled.
UNSW is closing down next week.
What kind of sick joke is this? I thought the director came to remind us the significance of the oncoming exams, i was expecting the usual "please study hard," but what greeted me instead was "Unfortunately, UNSW negotiations with the sg govt went down and we're now closing down." fuck. it took me the full 10 mins to digest it.
The Singapore Media said "UNSW blamed low enrolment." Here the fact, we had over 1000 applicants, explain that. Come on, UNSW wanted to scale down to accomodate us who were already in it, but sg said NO. WHY? because you'll lose money? because its only a small number of us? because you don't earn much? SCREW THAT. So much for "SG aims to be an international education hub" Sg was the one who went to persuade UNSW to set up a campus here, who are you to pull out of the contract and say no to scale-down?
Who are you to dash the hopes of many? Esp those who see UNSW Asia as a rare opportunities. Many are foreign students, they came here with everything they had, and now UNSW closed shut on them. They say they'll give us a space in sydney. ITS NOT THE SAME DAMNNIT. The accomodation fees, the transport fees, the living expenses.. sure, you CAN cover for them. What about environment? what about friends? what about families?
Seriously, for such a huge project to just fail and crash. I dunnoe which side is incompetent.. In my HONEST opinion though, its our govt. Look at the failed venture between singapore and University of Warwick, one of Britain's top 10 Universities. money money money, thats all that matters in the end. Money makes the world go round.
